Deputy Senate President and chairman of the Senate Constitution Review Committee (SCRC), yesterday submitted the much expected report of the committee to the Senate in plenary.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu who had on Monday told reporters that the report will be submitted this week, did not disclose the content and the Senate also was yet to commence deliberations on it.
However, sources in the committee told Daily Trust that the panel had recommended the provision of constitutional role for traditional rulers.
Similarly, senators also sought alteration of the constitution to grant financial autonomy to the 36 state houses of assembly.
Our correspondent reports that the last assembly had also passed similar provisions but some states assembly rejected it thereby denying themselves financial independence from their governors.
Another contentious issue that was recommended for removal from the constitution is the issue of indegeneship from the constitution to provide that Nigerians who have lived for up to five years in a given state can be considered indigenes of that state.
Senate President David Mark did not announce the date they will commence consideration of the report.
