This certainly must be unpleasant for Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, a former two term senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria and former commissioner in Lagos State, as his former landlord has dragged him to court for two years unpaid rent.

Architect Kunle Williams, the owner and landlord of a four bedroom semi-detached house, with a one room self contained boys quarter at No. 18 Isaac John Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos rented and occupied by Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi since March 1, 2008, claimed that the politician is owing him a total sum of N7,364,000 (Seven Million Three Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand Naira Only) being the outstanding rent due from March 1, 2011 to February 28, 2013, at the rate of N3,682,000 per year.

In suit No: ID/538/2012 filed at High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja Judical Division, on June 6, 2012, the landlord also want to the court to help him recover his house from the politician.

The landlord, in his statement of claims said, the senator paid his first two years rent which commenced form March 1, 2008 without any hassle.

He said problems, however, started when the politician was dilly-dally in the payment of his rent after the expiration of the first two years on February 2010.

He said it took a meeting between him, the politician and one Mr. Francis Okpaleke, from a firm of estate surveyors managing his estate  on March 13, 2010 before Senator Afikuyomi agreed to pay for one year renewal rent of N3.5 million and a second year renewal rent of same amount plus service charge of N182,000 on or before September 15, 2010.

The landlord claimed that Senator Afikuyomi only paid the first year renewal rent of N3.5 million but has failed and /or neglected to pay the second year renewal rent of N3.5 million and service charge of N182,000 all of which were due since February 28, 2011 till date.

The landlord went further to say that the politician , after some pressure on him  to pay his outstanding rent, issued two post-dated Sterling Bank cheques, dated July 29, 2011 for the second year renewal rent and service charge in favour of the landlord and his agent respectively which were returned unpaid.
