“Nigeria House of Representatives Commends President Tinubu’s First Year Achievements”

Abuja, Nigeria | Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – The Nigeria House of Representatives felicitates the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the occasion of his first year in Office.

Having assumed office at a very difficult time in our political history, President Tinubu’s knowledge of statecraft and commitment to the success of the Nigerian project through his Renewed Hope Agenda have shown great promise for the people of this great country.

We commend President Tinubu for his bold decisions, policy reforms and bills signed into law over the last one year. The House particularly applauds Mr. President for his signing into law of the ‘Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Fifth Alteration) (No.37), 2023, Electricity Act 2023, Nigeria Data Protection Bill 2023, and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Bill, 2023.

Other legislation so far assented to, include the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act 2024, Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024, into law.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, in his congratulatory message to the President, notes that the administration has in the last one year, demonstrated courageous leadership and taken bold decisions in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.

“The fuel subsidy removal and merger of the exchange rates showed his strong political will to prevent the administration from being taken hostage by the bureaucracy. He has equally rolled out some programmes and initiatives to alleviate the pains associated with the subsidy removal, including grants, education loans, distribution of food items, fertiliser, and cash transfers,” the Speaker said.

Speaker Abbas equally acknowledged that the President met a lot of challenges in various sectors of the Nigerian society, including insecurity, economic downturn, national disunity, among others, He thus, described President Tinubu as “a listening president who is open to criticism,” adding that Nigeria is on the path towards achieving economic recovery, growth, and prosperity

The Speaker further lauded the President for maintaining a harmonious relationship with the National Assembly, saying it has been paying off for the Nigerian citizens.

“The mutual understanding between the two arms of government is to promote good governance and ensure a peaceful nation. As representatives of the Nigerian people, we will continue to give the President the necessary support to succeed,” he said.

As President Tinubu marks this significant milestone in the life of his Administration, we join Nigerians in expressing hope for greater impact in the areas of national cohesion, economic growth and development, security and stability, as well as education and human capital development.

The 10th House of Representatives in alignment with our Legislative Agenda is eager to collaborate with the Executive to ensure effective service delivery for the benefit of the Nigerian people through active legislative support for executive initiatives, constructive engagement and oversight, and passage of bills aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

As Mr. President settles for a continuation of these significant strides across various sectors, we wish him wisdom, strength, great health and greater achievements over the next three years.
