Osun Govt Announces Makinde As New Owa Of Igbajo

Prince Makinde was announced as the new Owa, in the just concluded selection process held at the conference room of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, on Friday.

Recall that Gov Adeleke had on November 28, 2022, a day after his inauguration ordered the reversal of all appointments made by his predecessor, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, after the latter lost the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state.

Gboyega Famodun, a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state, was appointed Owa of Igbajo on November 21, 2022, six days to the expiration of Oyetola’s tenure.

The now deposed monarch was immediately taken into seclusion, performing all the traditional rites prescribed by the kingmakers of the ancient town.

He was subsequently coronated and presented the staff of office on November 25, 2022.

But Gov Adeleke reversed the appointment and that of two other monarchs, Oba Yinusa Olalekan Akadiri, the Akirun of Ikirun and Prince Ademola Oluponle, the Aree of Iree.

The directive for the monarchs to vacate their respective positions, pending thorough assessment of the processes that led to their selection, confirmation and installation as the traditional rulers of their respective towns generated controversies.
