I don’t know of any civilised and organised society where traffic offences are not taken seriously, irrespective of who is involved. In fact, the easiest way to blight your record is to commit a traffic infraction.

But how we seemed to have normalised such social maladies explains who we are and why we’re where we are. It is though shameful, it dissects us with pungent assertion.

Reading through some submissions online on the arrest of an utterly irresponsible soldier, who rode a commercial motorcycle one-way and in mufti, is a rather disturbing exposè about us as a people.

Worse still is the defence being put up by some officers, whose entitlement mentality has eclipsed their sense of reasoning, when in fact, they should cover their faces in shame and disappointment.

How soldiers think they should be exempted from civil rules and regulations to the point that an officer would put common sense aside and spew such twaddle in defence of palpable madness is befuddling?

Have you thought for a second the sort of indisciplined soldiers under the command of this officer, who would rather perpetuate illegality in the name of saving face? This poorly conceited officer is a menace to the Army, and by extension, the society.

This particular officer calling out Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is very rude and not respectable in all ways. Many “bloody civilians” have people who had served and still serving in the Nigerian army at the highest level and were/are never stupid in their choices.

Ironically, you guys are quick to complain about how badly the society has treated you, when indeed you contribute in no small measure to the problems of the society, and are one of the reasons we are where we are today.

Lest you forget, the nation has yet to heal from military interventions in governance.

The rest of the society can sit back, hide behind their keyboard and defend this nonsense, but the day these crude and arrogant fellows in uniform make you their next victim without provocation, there would be no one to speak for you, not even the governor you enjoy being derided now would stick out his neck for you. Enjoy the show.

Absolute clap!
