– Highlighting Lagos’s success in becoming a top tourist destination.
Your Excellency,
I have always admired your ability and zest in delivering the dividends of democracy.
I also supported your campaign amongst the executive corporate bodies and individuals.
All these, your excellency, were not for a personal gain. The quintessential of this was for a better Lagos, and also, as my basic civic responsibility for a greater Lagos, a state that is consistently known for setting the pace and standards as a true mega city with distinctions and flawless merits.
However, more recent in your esteemed leadership prowess is the successful hosting of Nigerians in the diaspora who visited Nigeria during “detty December.”
As National Chairman of the Association of Online Media Practitioners in Nigeria, AMPCON, I, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, commend your exemplary leadership roles which you displayed during the Christmas and New Year holiday break.
The majority of Nigerians, especially, the youths who visited Nigeria for the first time, enjoyed the hospitable nature of Lagos which was made possible by your good offices, this remarkably made all the visitors during the festive season to feel at home while also leaving with memorable and pleasant experiences.
They appreciated the improvement in security, transportation, and first-class reception at different Malls, Hotels, Recreation centres that they visited on Lagos Island and its environs.
It will be recalled that over a million Nigerians in the diaspora decided to spend their Christmas holiday in Lagos instead of traveling to Dubai or any other country in the world.
They also brought their friends and loved ones who are non-Nigerians to come and enjoy the good hospitality of Nigerians at home.
Sir, through the enabling environment you created, they were very proud to call themselves Nigerians.
With what happened last Christmas and New Year’s break, Lagos state has become the best tourist center in Africa and arguably in the world.
I’m using this opportunity to equally thank the Police formation in Lagos State, the immigration and customs officials at the airport, the officers and men of the Nigerian Army, officers and men of the Department of State Security for working round the clock to keep Lagos safe during the last yuletide and new year break.
There is no way of counting the success of last “Detty December” without mentioning our superstar musicians like Davido, Asake and a host of others for the wonderful concert they put together to the admiration of both local and international fun seekers.
We also appreciate the officials of Lagos state governments, like LASTMA, LASEPA, LAWMA, and others. Their competence, discipline, patriotism, dedication, and good-natured disposition were deeply felt and grossly cherished.
It’s crystal clear that Lekki, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Ajah parts of Lagos state have literally become tourist attractions and friendly areas to all Nigerians and non-Nigerians both at home and abroad.
Your Excellency Sir, I will be happy if these areas can be significantly transformed and developed like Dubai to serve both our visitors and the people living within Nigeria. With such noble intervention, Lagos State could also generate enough revenue from tourism and tourists.
Our visitors have come, and most of them have returned to their destinations with good things to say about new Nigeria under a renewed hope agenda.
However, the only sector they complained about is electricity which has been a persistent problem for decades, and they still found it difficult to believe that Nigerians are still in the dark despite the huge amount they read internet which government has invested.
Mr. Governor, Sir, powering the Lekki, Ikoyi, and VI by independent power plants will not be a bad idea at all. It will help us to sell our new tourist centers to the world.
Sir, you installed streetlights everywhere, but all these poles are seriously combating with the challenge of no public power to accordingly energize them.
Sir, our success would have been 100% if not because the whole Island was in the dark most of the night during the December period.
Your Excellency Sir, as you are tackling the problem of transportation in Lagos, give the Lekki, Ikoyi, and Victoria special status an change them to a tourist centre.
I told some of the visitors mostly our youths who came home from abroad that before they returned to Nigeria in December 2024, you would have solved the problem of electricity and tackled the menace of adulterated drinks which are now rampant in the metropolis.
May Almighty Allah guide and give you more wisdom to take Lagos to the point of your dream, Sir. Once again, happy new year to you and your esteemed team.
