The Highly publised Nigerian Carnival is no longer holding today as the organisers could not come up with the 12,ooo pounds security fee after spending some much money to put the events together but could not attract both private or Gorvenment sponsporship,he ended up in hosipital after the shock of realising that the event will not hold,he released this press statement
It is with great regret that I have to announce the indefinite suspension of the Nigerian Carnival, UK. The project was borne out of the need to foster a stronger communal tie amongst Nigerians living in the UK and lovers of our tradition and culture. The Nigerian Carnival is brought to you courtesy of a team of spirited Nigerians; whose perception is to lift Nigeria from her present unwholesome image amongst the comity of nations. This has been worsened by the negative press the country has been unfortunate to get over the last two decades.
This is our way of contributing towards the re-branding that is presently ongoing in Nigeria. One of our primary concerns is to start with our children by instilling some of our core values in them and also attempt to give them an identity that they will be proud to carry with them wherever they go.
Unfortunately, the support we so much crave to birth this lofty dream was not forthcoming. We have expended our scarce resources in the last five years of our corporate existence in trying to lift our dearly beloved country to greater heights.
Once again, the event that was marked for Saturday 20th October 2012 at the Kennington Park, London has therefore been suspended indefinitely and all are advised not to go to the said park-as our event will not be taking place as planned.
On behalf of the entire Nigerian Carnival, UK team, I wish to apologise unreservedly for the huge inconvenience this decision will amount to. I am aware of all the monetary and emotional setback people will incur as a result. I do honestly wish that a project of this magnitude was supported by the powers that be.
While wishing all Nigerians and friends of Nigeria planning on coming to the event ground tomorrow, all things good and bright, I will also use this medium to pray for my beloved country. I still believe that someday soon, the sun will shine on us.
