Ekiti State Commissioner for Transportation Warns Traffic Wardens Against Corruption

Earlier today, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Kehinde Kolawole Ajobiewe, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation,Mr. Isaac Abulola, and the Director of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency (EKSTMA), Mr. Tai Akomolafe, addressed the State Traffic Wardens at the agency’s Head office in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti. The focus of the address was the public outcry against the officers’ alleged bribe collection from traffic law offenders.

Hon. Ajobiewe expressed deep concern and disappointment over the reported unethical behavior exhibited by some of the Traffic Wardens. He emphasized the detrimental effect this misconduct has on the agency’s reputation and called on them to cease dragging its good name through the mud. Citing the importance of integrity and public trust, the commissioner warned that anyone caught engaging in corrupt practices will be held accountable before the law.

During the address, Hon. Ajobiewe urged the Traffic Wardens to be diligent in carrying out their duties and to shun all forms of corruption. He reiterated that their primary responsibility should be promoting road safety, maintaining order, and ensuring the free flow of traffic within the state. By adhering to these principles, the Commissioner emphasized that they would not only uphold the integrity of the agency but also restore public confidence in their services.

The Commissioner for Transportation emphasized that the agency would implement proactive measures to address the issue of corruption within its ranks. These measures would include enhancing accountability mechanisms, conducting regular integrity trainings, and establishing a dedicated reporting system for misconduct or abuse of power.

In light of this anti-corruption drive, Hon. Kehinde Kolawole Ajobiewe called on members of the public to cooperate with the agency by providing accurate information and reporting any observed misconduct promptly, and also the Citizens were also warned from disobeying traffic laws, and as well stop offering officers of EKSTMA bribes as it takes two to tango. The Commissioner believes that the agency will be better able to identify and weed out corrupt individuals, ultimately creating a stronger and more efficient traffic management system in Ekiti State.

Mr. Isaac Abulola, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation, encouraged traffic wardens to steer clear of corrupt practices. Mr. Abulola emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and being good representatives of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agenccy (EKSTMA).

In response, the boss of EKSTMA, Mr. Tai Akomolafe expressed gratitude towards the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary for their continuous support. He assured them that EKSTMA would work diligently in addressing corruption within their ranks and ensuring positive changes.

Furthermore, the boss of EKSTMA pledged to hold regular training sessions for traffic wardens on ethical behavior and the importance of upholding the law. He emphasized the need for EKSTMA to be seen as a transparent and trustworthy organization.
