Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, returned to the campaign turf on Tuesday, in Owerri, capital of Imo State, evoking memories of his successful journey to the Government House.
Governor Otti had mounted the stage in company of Labour Party (LP) leader and 2023 Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi; National Chairman, Julius Abure and other members of LP National Working Committee members, at the Kanu Nwankwo mini stadium, to support the candidacy of Senator Athan Achonu, who is flying LP flag in the November 11, 2023 governorship election in Imo.
His entrance at the event, where Achonu was formally presented to Imolites, sent the packed venue cheering in excitement. Shouts of, “The performing Governor, the performer”, rented the air as he made his way through the surging crowd to the stage.
Speaking to the animated crowd, Governor Otti told them that it was still early day as the massive achievement recorded so far by his government in less than 90 days is just a tip of the iceberg of what is to come.
He told the party faithfuls that he was at the event to attest to the candidacy of the Imo LP standard bearer, Senator Achonu, having supervised the primary election that produced him.
“I’m here as a witness, being that I conducted the primaries that produced distinguished Senator Athan Achonu as the governorship candidate of Labour Party. The reason I say so is, in not so distant future, you’re going to see counterfeits, fakes.
“We have only one governorship candidate (in Imo) for Labour Party and his name is Senator Athan Achonu. Don’t let anybody deceive you, the full weight of the party is behind him, and that is why we have the leaders of the party here. We have the National Chairman of the party, the National Secretary, all National Working Committee members and of course, my humble self,” Governor Otti declared.
The LP Presidential Candidate, Obi, re-echoed Governor Otti’s view on Athan as the party’s authentic candidate. He called on all Imo voters to cast their ballots for the LP candidate so he could replicate the kind of performance going on in Abia.
Senator Achonu called on the voters to vote massively for Labour Party with him as the candidate, promising to turn around the state’s fortune for good.
The one armed former senator, who goes with the alias, Agu otu aka (one armed lion) identified with the physically challenged in the crowd, vowing to be the first of a physically challenged person in the state to become Governor.
