ALA RESORT GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY holds Tuesday

The formal ground-breaking ceremony of Ala Resort and Aerotropolis project, promoted by Ala Resort Limited, will hold on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

The project, which will be the largest and a first-of-its-kind in sub-Saharan Africa, is a modern city developed around an airport — the Akure Airport, precisely. The infrastructure component of the project alone is estimated to cost $75 million.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is expected to perform the ground-breaking, assisted by the Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, and Minister of Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika.

The project is being developed as public-private-partnership (PPP) between Ala Resort Limited and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Tuesday’s ceremony will also witness the formal signing of the partnership agreement between the two entities.

Ala Resort and Aerotropolis will be a sprawling development for which air travel will constitute the driving force and central concept, surrounded by complementary developments of commercial, educational, entertainment, healthcare, hospitality and light industrial centres.

It will consist of a potpourri of modern amenities, including 5-star Hotels, 18-hole Golf Course, Civic Centre, Educational Institutions, Sports Academy, World Class Medical Facility, Retail Centres, Industrial Zone, Agricultural Zone for Green House Farming, Residential Town Houses and Apartments, all located in pristine parkland environment.

The project will cover more than 150 hectares of land, which means that, when completed, this Aerotropolis will sit on land three times bigger than what the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, occupies.

The Resort’s strategic positioning along the major route that connects Western Nigeria to the East, the South-South, and the North, making it a potential global trade hub that will feed and be fed by the expansion of the Akure Airport.

Ala Resort derives its name from the historical Ala River in Akure, considered to be the most important irrigation and drinking water resource in the surrounding areas.
