Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin at the Corps headquarters, Abuja reiterates the Corps stance in exposing and prosecuting anyone caught or fingered in employment scam and other corrupt practices.
He made this known while addressing the press on the arrest made so far in connection with employment racketeering and why the Corps has decided to set up a panel to investigate the suspects in accordance to the law, ethics, rules and regulations governing military and paramilitary agencies.
According to Abolurin, the Corps as a security organization has the power to arrest, investigate and to prosecute, therefore, it is not out of place to set up a panel to investigate cases that involves personnel and others, for disciplinary measures to be taken in line with the public service rule, so as to serve as deterrent to others with and to maintain the level of integrity and credibility the Corps has attained.
The Corps helmsman states that, the earlier information through an on-line publication alleging that one of the personnel suspected to be involved in an employment scam was his adviser is false and misleading and need to be corrected because the personnel was only a junior officer serving with the Anti-Fraud unit.
For the purpose of clarification, the Corps has no office or designation set aside for any of her personnel as Special Adviser as it was said.
Furthermore, the said personnel was never arrested in a hotel in Gwagwalada talk less of him been caught in the act collecting money. He was only fingered by one of the suspects, a road side GSM and computer operator arrested in Gwagwalada based on intelligence report. It was the suspect who mentioned one Tiamiyu Hakeem a staff of the Corps as his link.
The Corps in justifying her slogan of collect “Bribe and Die” “Compromise and be kidnapped” has swung into full time investigation of the allegation with a view to unravel the culprit.
It is worthy of note that, contrary to the allegation that the letters of employment found with the suspect were signed by the Commandant General, it was revealed that the Corps Chief Executive was never a signatory to any of the appointment letters issued during the replacement exercise, therefore, any letter of such is fake and should be reported accordingly.
According to Abolurin, the Corps will not spare anyone found guilty of extorting money from desperate applicants for the purpose of employment into the Service. However, in the past, some of the personnel that were indicted in the scam were dismissed after the lay down procedure as contained in the Public Service Rule and the Condition/Scheme of Service of the Corps and charged to court for prosecution alongside the non Corps personnel found guilty of the same offence.
The Corps also in collaboration with ICPC have arrested some persons in Lagos state who opened fake websites for the purpose of defrauding applicants. They will be charge to court soon, therefore, in tackling corruption above board, the Corps boss says, ‘we are conscious of the fact that, the first case of fake recruitment saga involving personnel of other services that were arrested and handed over to those services were not properly handled, however, we have learnt from the hasty investigation and handover which made our personnel to suffer unjust detention for over six months thereby making a complainant to become an accused’.
In assuring the public of the Corps dogged fight against corrupt practices, Abolurin says, for the avoidance of doubt, the investigation by the panel will be thorough without bias and at the end, necessary and decisive action will be taken without compromise.
