I like how the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, often makes smart choices, drops them in the face of the public without a fuss and leaves the people to deal with it. Particularly admirable is the fact that he could be unruffled, even in the face of very disturbing situations.
Many people had been a bit skeptical about how the governor sees his re-election battle and were thus worried about the possibility of dismissing his opponents. But while he is expected to grandstand, naturally, more so as the incumbent with huge advantage, taking anything for granted could, however, be suicidal.
But he is obviously not taking prisoners. His choice of Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, to lead his re-election campaign isn’t just a smart move; it is one, which presupposes that subsequent choices, as far as the 2023 electoral battle is concerned, would be smarter.
GOS as he is called, is one of the most loyal party members that the APC can boast of in the state of aquatic splendour, and has remained loyal for as long as the “self-styled” progressive party, has been in existence in the state. It’s a winning choice, because he knows the issues, understands them and can sell them as well.
From being a local government chairman to member, House of Representatives and later Senator for eight years, in addition to a few attempts at the governorship run, including leading some federal government agencies, GOS is definitely a distinguished general of political battles with requisite experience to run the race. He not only knows what it takes, he had been there and could project near-accurately what to expect.
Without placing too much on Solomon’s plate, Sanwo-Olu couldn’t have made a better choice, considering all the boxes – capacity, experience, loyalty, network, perseverance, pedigree, high values, knowledge of the system and its intrigues and more.
He is arguably the man for the job – an election general of all times – and the opposition most definitely knows they have nothing on this quintessential grassroots politician from Mushin, an uncommon part of Lagos.
Definitely, without a doubt, Sanwo-Olu isn’t joking or taking anything for granted as far as 2023 is concerned.
Congratulations, GOS👍🏿
