The Federal Government has promised to intensify its efforts to make
sure that more Nigerians are evacuated from Poland and their welfare
properly managed.
This was stated by the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission
Hon. (Dr) Abike Dabiri-Erewa during a courtesy visit by the delegates
from the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, Poland, to her office in
Abuja, to discuss the way forward for Nigerian students in Ukraine.
Dabiri-Erewa assured the delegates that the Ministry of Education and
Foreign Affairs are collaborating to ensure that Ukrainian students are
given the opportunity to continue with their studies back home in
Nigeria.
In her words: “we are not saying pack your bags and come bag home, but
we have to be partners for progress”.
Addressing the issues of the renewal and production of passports, the
NiDCOM boss said there is an online portal for registration and renewal
by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
In addition, she seized the opportunity to urge Nigerians in Poland and
Ukraine to register their information, through the Commission’s website,
for proper documentation.
Meanwhile, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Poland, Dr Tade
Omotosho, commended the Federal Government through the Nigerians in
Diaspora Commission for the constant support, advice, guidance and
provision of planes for evacuation during the Ukraine/Russian War.
Dr. Omotosho appealed to NiDCOM to intervene on the plight of Nigerians
students in Ukraine and passport renewal.
Speaking also, he expressed his willingness to collaborate with the
Commission by extending an invite for the Commemoration of the
Anniversary of the Polish War by honouring the first Nigerian diasporan
to partake in the war, Mr. Agboola Brown who moved to Poland in 1920.
The NiDO Poland Chairman plans to host a Trade and Investment Summit
which focuses on Agro-business.
