How Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni Saved APC From Collapse

The very essence of leadership is the vision of a leader. And for a ruling party like the All Progressives Congress (APC), without leaders with vision, they may quickly lose out.

In the last few months, the APC had been embroiled in a lot of mess and controversies, coupled with the suspension of the national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole. Like a house of badly arranged cards, it was tethering on the brink of ruin and eventual collapse.

One month ago, on Thursday, June 25, His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni, the Governor of Yobe State was appointed the caretaker chairman after the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) dissolved the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and things have begun to take shape.

It would be remembered that before the dissolution of the NWC, the party had been plunged into a leadership crisis as two different factions battled for ultimate control.

Like a gentle wind in the desert, the coming of Buni calmed frayed nerves in the party and stopped the undulating party ship. In many ways, he is best described as the saviour of the APC.

At his swearing-in, he was quoted saying, “I am a team player and I am here to manage a crisis. If you do not manage crisis, crisis will manage you.”

Truly, just as a porter does, he has steadily and firmly begun moulding the broken parts of the party, restructuring and making much-needed changes. His vision for the party is becoming a reality, and that is what has brought the peace APC has enjoyed in the last few weeks.

Ever since he was appointed chairman, he has made giant moves that have produced visible results, leading many to give him accolades as a true visionary, and a great believer in the youth who are the future of the nation.
