When Senator Dino Melaye lost at the Senatorial elections tribunal last year, it was clear to many that although the tribunal had called for a re-run; it will be easier to pass through the eye of a needle, than for Dino to win the rerun.
For the rerun that was scheduled same day with the gubernatorial election of the state, all attentions were solely on the two elections in Kogi West. A lot came to play, meetings having gone down dead in the night, forces were appealed to, palms were greased, Dino was seen jointly as a defiant and recalcitrant representative; he had become a common enemy and go he must.
For the same rerun and governorship election, GYB had mend fences with a lot of his foes in the west including his arch enemy, Hon Abiodun Faleke, he had reached out to the likes of the cerebral Babatunde Irukera and the people of Iyagba, it will be hard to resist him even if had come blazing with thugs.
Because GYB had taken Dino is erstwhile benefactor as his main enemy and because he needed to pay Smart Adeyemi for his loyalty, he vowed to take the senatorial re-run more seriously than his governorship election, he vowed that Dino was going to lose even if it means he too loses his governorship seat, except there is a twist by the ongoing tribunal, the rest of the story may have become history.
What are those things expected by the good people of Kogi West from the smart Senator Smart Adeyemi as he continues on his third term reign as a senator representing the zone:
One of the things that the great people of Kogi West are known for is their educational dexterity. Like the Ekiti people, the western people of Kogi State are known for academic pursuit and excellence. They want less of drama and more of an intellectual display and representative by anybody who represents them at the federal level. Truth be told, the ousted senator was loved across the nation because of his incessant display and untoward releases on social media but the sad reality is that the people who voted for him at home, see such as childish and unnecessary. Expectations are that Senator Smart Adeyemi will be much matured than that.
Another very crucial one is getting the local artisans involved in the project he can draw home to his constituency. The former senator was largely accused of contracting his constituency and personal projects to outsiders who are not only non-indigenes of Kogi West but total non-indigenes of Kogi State. People now expect the new third term senator to get the locals involved in his personal and constituency projects so that jobs will not only be created, poverty will be alleviated.
The former senator, though he had his admirers and followers, was not seen by many as modest. His crass display of wealth and affluence looked needless and boastful in the sight of so many. His people felt he should do more to alleviate people of his area from poverty instead of displaying his acquisition to spite others. Senator Adeyemi is expected to be modest and matured in such displays.
Recently, Senator Adeyemi was berated for his open and uncouth poignant display of loyalty to Bello; in fairness, would one had expected him not to be loyal to a man who rescued his career and stood firmly by him? Absolutely no! What majority of his people are saying is that unalloyed loyalty can be done quietly, decently and firmly without unnecessary noise and thuggish display, the video that went viral was unsenatorial and lacks some tenet of maturity from the well-respected senator.
In the days and months ahead, Senator Smart Adeyemi is expected to learn new lessons and tread softly so as not to draw some comparison with his recently ousted rival.
