The Executive Council of Kano State under the Chairmanship of His Excellency the Governor of Kano State Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR in a press release signed on 9 March, 2020 by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, has unanimously approved the immediate removal/dethronement of the Emir of Kano Emirate Muhammad Sunusi II.
According to the press release, the Emir of Kano is said to be in total disrespect to lawful Instructions from the office of the state Governor and other lawful authorities, including his tenacious refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organized by the Government without any lawful justification which aggregates to total insubordination.
Malam Muhammad Sunusi II has been found breaching part 3 section 13 (a e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate. This has been on record and has repeated in so many instances.
This removal is authenticated as a result of due consultation and hearing with the relevant stakeholders and in alliance with part 3 section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and other reasons mentioned above.
This agreement to dethrone Sanusi is as a result of the need to protect the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over a thousand years.
The Governor of Kanu State, His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR has called on the general public to stay calm, law abiding and to go about their normal businesses. While a new Emir of Kano Emirate will soon be appointed.
