The 28th edition of the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence will hold Sunday, 29th December to maintain the tradition of unbroken presentation since 1992.
A lifetime award and sixteen prizes to various journalists and media houses will be presented.
The Lifetime award, which is DAME’s highest award, goes to Nigerian Tribune, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in November as Nigeria’s most enduring newspaper.
In a statement by the organisers, the Nigerian Tribune is described as having “earned a distinguished place as one of Africa’s most successful and influential newspapers in a setting where the attrition rate of news publications has remained disturbingly high”.
The statement added “Tribune is a study in industry and resilience. Thanks to the vision of its founder and the managerial acumen of succeeding managers. The Tribune, today, remains a worthy example of an institutional legacy that has endured. Not only has the paper endured gracefully, it has also grown in its economic fortunes”.
Prizes will be awarded in such reporting categories as Nutrition, Education, Lagos, Sports, Judiciary, Investigation, Child friendly and Agriculture. Other categories include: News photography, Newspaper Design, Editorial Cartooning, Informed Commentary, Editorial Writing, Child friendly Medium, Television Documentary, Editor of the Year and Newspaper of the Year.
Established in 1991, DAME held its first presentation in 1992 and has grown to become Africa’s most consistent media award.
