The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdRahman AbdulRazaq, has implored the Corps Members deployed to the State to uphold the objectives for which the National Youth Service Corps scheme was established to strengthen national integration and socio-economic development for the Country.
The Governor gave the charge today while delivering his speech during the official closing ceremony and the end of the Orientation Parade for the 2019 Batch ‘C’ Stream 11 Corps Members held at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Yikpata, Edu L.G.A. of the State.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Dr. Yusuf Garba Manjo, the Governor tasked the Corps Members to continue adhering to the tenets of patriotism, doggedness, hard work, discipline, commitment and loyalty, which they had demonstrated throughout the period of twenty-one days of the orientation exercise, warning that digression from the qualities portends dangers for the development and unity of the nation in as much as, he stated, the philosophies of the scheme are still tremendously relevant today as they were at the wake of the programme over four decades ago.
He remarked that the orientation syllabus has prepared them for the enormous task ahead which he said will make them reach up to the aspirations of the founding fathers, declaring that he hoped their entire service year will be highly productive and beneficial to the people of Kwara State who will be hosting them for the next one year.
Urging them to volunteer themselves as reliable agents of physical and socio-economic development of their host State and the nation in general, AbdulRazaq indicated his delight over the Corps Members’ outstanding participation in the camp activities, most especially in the lectures and trainings on Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), which he said may spur many of them into self-employment after service.
The Governor noted that the intervention of the present Adminstration in changing the ugly narrative of NYSC in the State will build in the Corps Members an entirely new impression about Kwara State, imploring them to tell the world of the new lyric they have discovered in the State.
Earlier in her address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Esther Tosin Ikupolati, appraised that the Corps Members are patriotic, disciplined, unique, mature, and well-behaved throughout the orientation exercise.
Appealing to the Corps Members to accept their postings in good faith and gird their loins for discharging their duties in their respective places of primary assignments, the Coordinator explained that the posting was strictly done in line with the NYSC posting policy.
Mrs. Ikupolati then expressed appreciation to the Governor of the State for all the support and assistance to the NYSC scheme since his assumption of office, giving an assurance that the Corps Members will have a better story to share with their colleagues who might have camped in the place before.
She also thanked Wife of the Executive Governor, Mrs. Olufolake Ajike AbdulRazaq, the Senator representing Kwara North, Engr. Sodiq Umar, and Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, for their support and solidarity visits during the orientation exercise.
The Executive Governor was later conducted round the recently renovated hostels in the Camp, and the Camp Clinic, by the Allhaji Ahmed Oladipo Aliu, the Deputy-Director, Youth Development, who represented the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Miss Joana Nnazua Kolo.
The ceremony also featured slow match pass by the Corps Members.
