We flagged off the reconstruction of Moniya-Ijaye-Iseyin road, this morning. The contract for rehabilitation under the previous admin was revoked, and a contract for reconstruction was awarded to Kopek Construction Ltd at the sum of N9.9B with a completion time of 12 months.
This road is crucial to the economy of Oyo State; agricultural produce and solid minerals from Oke-Ogun will be conveyed on this road to other parts of Oyo State including the dry port at Olorisaoko for export within and outside Nigeria.
Therefore, it is important that the road is well constructed and can last for a minimum of 10 years. Changes were made to the original design of the project such as; provision of adequate drainage facilities and an increase in the thickness of asphalt from 40mm to 50mm for better durability.
I appealed to the youths in that area to cooperate with the contractors as they execute the project, and that the contractors should employ our young people for the project where possible.
