CBN To Introduce N5000 Note, Changes N5 N10 and N20 Notes To Coins Next Year

I reported recently that Central Bank of Nigeria plans to introduce the N5000 note sometime this year, but the face(s) of who will be given this national honor has been a subject of great speculation in recent months.

Its has now being officially confirmed that the CBN will launch the N5000 soon, and the faces of 3female activists from different cultures in Nigeria will grace it. Yes! They certainly got this one right, because I was starting to wonder If Nigeria had no female heroes…lol!

The three women to be honoured with the N5000 note are:

  • Margaret Ekpo (1914 – 2006)-late politician and social mobiliser
  • Hajia Gambo Sawaba (1933 – 2001)-politician and activist
  • Funmilayo Kuti (1900 -1978)-women’s right activist

The CBN governor  also announced that the N5, N10, and N20 note will be reduced to coins next year. This I’m very skeptical about, because the last attempt by the CBN to bring back coins into circulation failed woefully. Also many have expressed censure over the N5000 naira note saying that  it will only only worsen the inflation situation in the Country.

Tell us, is the introduction of the N5ooo note a good move on the part of the CBN?

  1. Nigeria money is becoming worse and worse year by year. This act of higher currency majorly favours the rich besides, inflation will become unbearable, fraudulent act from all angles will escalate, the poor will suffer most. CBN, do you think this is the solution to the Nigerian economy? Yes, my respect to the great trio women.

  2. All these policies are not solution to nigerian problems
In foreign countries reformation of economy is the best thing to do.day in day out changing of currency is only source of confusion not transformation.
