Ife stands still as Baba ijebu becomes Arole oodua

Chief (Sir) Adebutu Adebukunla Kessington(Baba Ijebu),a renowned businessman and philanthropist, has emerged as the Odole of Ile-Ife , a title which was last held by the late legal icon, Chief G. O .K . Ajayi .

Before the late Ajayi was made Odole by the immediate past Ooni, Oba Okunade Sijuade , late Premier of Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was Odole , having been installed by the late Sir Adesoji Aderemi , the 49 th Ooni of Ife .

The Director , Media and Public Affairs , Ooni ’s Palace, Moses Olafare ,while speaking to news men few days ago,explained that His Imperial Majesty,Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula,Ooni Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, would confer the title on Adebutu in October.

On the significance of the title , Olafare described the Òdolé as a special traditional office that would closely work with the Ooni in rallying the descendants of Oduduwa,wherever they are,in the world, for unity , peace and progress of the Yoruba race .

He added that ,the Òdole Oodua , a position once occupied by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and subsequently by Chief G.O .K Ajayi , is a highly revered Chieftaincy title in Yorubaland which was pioneered by the great Oranmiyan while he was still a Prince of Ile-Ife.

Olafare made it clinically clear that,the positive contributions to the advancement of humanity,promotion of the Yoruba Cultural Values cum Traditions and his Philanthropic gestures made him,Chief Adebutu,the most qualified for the revered position.

All the necessary rites attached to the installation are being observed ahead of the installation ceremony slated for 19th of October, 2019 . The Kings , High Chiefs and Chief Priests are atop the Coronation rites.
