In 1992, I and 61 other student leaders were expelled from OAU, Ile-Ife, on account of the students protest against IMF loan. I could not go home to tell my guardian, given all that I had gone through in life before securing admission.
Mr Gboyega Amusan, who was then Managing Director of Kosalabaro Press and a native of Ile-Ife, opened his doors for me, to stay in his house, whilst Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, battled in court to re-instate us.
Mr Amusan also employed me as an apprentice printer, paying a little allowance to enable me survive the gruesome six months of that phase of my life. Mr Amusan is the one wearing the check shirt in picture 1 whilst I’m the one sitting and decked in sun glasses, during one of our printing sessions at Kosalabaro Press in 1992. I was eventually re-instated, I completed my education and graduated from OAU and was called to the Bar.
Fast forward 2019. Mr Amusan informed me of a personal challenge in court in Ile-Ife. I raced down to the court to stand in for him yesterday in picture 2 and the matter is being resolved. Myself, Mr Amusan and the Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Prof Ogunmodede, in picture 3, discussing at Oduduwa Hall, a few moment before my lecture at Ooni of Ife’s 45th birthday lecture.
If God has placed it in you to do so, show love and kindness to others, even when you have no expectation of any reward.
