My attention has been drawn to an order by Imo State governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha that Former governor and current senator representing Imo West over alleged assault on jasper Ndubuaku, who doubles as Special Adviser to Governor Emeka Ihedioha on Security matters and Chairman of Recovery of government Properties.
I condemn this undemocratic order given by governor Emeka Ihedioha to Imo citizens. Orders, such as this one can breed anarchy and throw the state into unnecessary political unrest.
As a firm believer in the rule of law and due process, I call on the Imo State Governor to handle this issue of recovery of assets from the former governor within the ambit of the law and not resorting to self help. If Senator Okorocha is found wanting of all he’s been accused of of, only those saddled with the responsibility by the law of our land are allowed to arrest him and not some private individual.
Governor Ihedioha should focus more on governance and delivering on his campaign promises to the people of Imo rather than what is now being perceived as a personal vendetta against a political opponent.
The energy and resources being expended on the former governor should be channeled into providing developmental projects for the people in dire need of purposeful leadership.
Furthermore, the political turbulence rocking Imo State at the moment is unhealthy. Therefore, I enjoin both political gladiators to sheath their sword and ensure a peaceful and amicable resolution of their differences in the interest of the people.
As an old African proverb says: “When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers most”. The people of Imo want nothing but a leadership that is focused. I am not from Imo State but I feel obligated to talk on this issue because if the governor’s action is not condemned, he might as well come for other opposition dissents and civil society in the state.
As citizens of Nigeria, the very least we can do for ourselves and generation unborn is stay true to the principles of working for truth, justice and democracy in this country.
