As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s Eid-ul-Adha (festival of sacrifice), prominent Lagos monarch, the Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi has enjoined Nigerians to imbibe the lesson of the season and continue to live in peace and tolerant of one another.
The monarch, in his Sallah message noted that while the country is trying to get out of the challenges confronting it, the citizens should support the government by ensuring that peace reigns in all communities, while those championing ethnic divisions should eschew such bitterness and see the strength and opportunities offered by our diversity
Oba Elegushi equally admonished the political class to put the continue first ahead of their personal interest and desist from turning the citizens against each other, as well as against the state through hate speech, divisive messages and campaign of calumny.
He also appealed to security agencies to continue to ensure the safety of lives and property of Nigerians, charging them that the insecurity currently threatening the peace of the nation should be brought to a halt as quickly as possible.
The monarch, while congratulating Muslims on the Sallah Celebration, enjoined them to celebrate moderately and also extend a hand of fellowship to the down trodden and the needy as well those displaced by disasters.
“Allah enjoins all Muslims at a time like this to remember those who are unable to celebrate, so I want to appeal to our people to follow this injunction and extend the celebration to those who are unable to do so at this time”, the monarch stated.
