A member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Honourable Shina Abiola Peller, has appealed to the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, to rescue his constituents from the life-threatening ecological challenges they are confronted with at the moment.
The legislator made this appeal on Friday, July 12, 2019 when he paid a working visit to the governor at his Agodi office in Ibadan.
Whilst handing over a comprehensive report of the environmental challenges prevalent in Kajola local government which led to the loss of lives of Mr. Amusa Mukaila and Mrs. Fausat Sulaimon on the 22nd of June 2019, Hon. Shina Peller urged Governor Makinde to urgently address the menace of erosion, which is often caused by poor drainage infrastructure on roads in his constituency.
Responding to this, Governor Makinde expressed his heartfelt condolences to Hon. Peller on the loss of lives and properties of his people, and assured him that he will intervene urgently in his capacity as the state Chief Executive to address the problem and prevent further loss of lives and properties in the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency and Oyo State at large.
An indication that the Governor’s disposition to the report presented was very positive were his subsequent updates on social media informing the people of Oyo State of the visit whilst promising to do something urgently to address the problem.
The governor wrote on his Instagram and Facebook pages;
“I was pleased to meet with Honourable Shina Peller, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, who visited me today to submit a report on flooding/erosion in Kajola LGA, which claimed lives and destroyed properties.
“I assured him I would look into the report and take appropriate action. As I have always said, we were elected to serve our people, and we should ensure that partisan politics does not trump our duty to always act in the best interest of our people.”
