Don't miss:

Are Nigerian Policemen Trained to beat up Suspects before Arresting them?

Why do Nigerian policemen beat up suspects and lie so easily? I am confused and amazed at what happened this morning on my way to work.  I saw a policeman beating a man in front of a new generation bank.  Curious, I wanted to know the offense of the man. My discovery shocked me.  The man been battered is a driver who brought some girls doing a road show for Teapot to the bank and his offense was that he didn’t listen to instruction, and didn’t  park well. He was not only beaten but made to kneel down as seen in the pic.

Immediately my journalistic instinct took over and i took out my Blackberry phone and took some pictures. Unfortunately for me, one of the Mopol saw me and instantly seized my BB. While still there, the police started asking all kinds of questions and immediately radioed his colleagues that he had caught an armed robber who came to film and survey the bank. Luckily for me, the Head of Corporate Affairs of the Bank is a good friend,  so I put in a call through to her on my other phone and she in turn called the Bank head of operations who came in to save me and begged me to delete the policeman picture  on the Blackberry.

But for the intervention of my friends at the bank, I was already labelled an Armed Robber. My question for the Inspector General of Police is:  Are Nigerian police trained to beat suspects when they are being arrested for offenses as minor as traffic offenses, or when the suspects are  resisting arrest?

This is my own experience. Tell us, have you witnessed or experienced something similar in the hands of the Nigerian Police?
