A member-elect of the Nigerian House of Representatives from Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Hon. Shina Abiola Peller, on Tuesday, 14th May, 2019, celebrated his 43rd birthday with the pupils of the Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted, Surulere, Lagos.
In what has become a yearly routine for him, Shina Peller, who has been the school’s patron for several years, had a fun-filled birthday celebration with the special needs students as he danced and interacted with them much to their delight.
In his address to the students, Shina Peller explained to them that there is a clear difference between vision and sight, adding that what the students had lost is their sight, and not vision.
He therefore urged them to have a clear vision of what they want to become in life and work diligently and consistently towards its actualization.
Buttressing the point, he cited instances of various people, who despite being blind, rose to the apex of their careers and became notable achievers in life. He, therefore, added that if these people could make it, the students can also.
In his words, “My Pacellian family, there is no limit to what you can achieve in life; the world has produced many successful people who were blind. Alec Templeton was born blind, and despite this, he was a successful pianist, satirist and radio presenter. Andrea Bocelli lost his sight at the age of 12 while playing football. Nevertheless, he made himself successful through his arts; he is a successful saxophonist and singer.”
Shina Peller continued, “I can go on and on; if these people could make it, you also can. As I celebrate my birthday with you today, I urge you to pay adequate attention to your education, while you open your nose, ears and importantly minds to great ideas and life opportunities.”
It is noteworthy that for over six years now, Shina Peller has consistently made it a yearly tradition to award scholarships to the overall best graduating students of the Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted. On Tuesday, two of his friends, who had come to celebrate with him, promised to support his scholarship scheme by offering full scholarships for one graduating student each. This welcome development means several more lives will be touched. Shina Peller enjoined other well meaning Nigerians to join him in his support for the school and other charitable causes.
