During the last supper, on the eve of the dark days of Jesus Christ, according to a tale told by the good books, Jesus had looked his disciple, Peter in the eyes, and predicted that Peter would disown him before the rooster crowed the next morning. Trust the lip service follower, he was willing to swear by even his existence that such would not happen.
Following arrest of Jesus, Peter, true to Jesus’s prediction denied knowing his boss three times; until he heard the crow of the rooster.
After the backlash that trailed Senator Abiola Ajimobi in the wake of the 2019 gubernatorial race of Oyo State, that produced Adebayo Adelabu as a successor to the latter, and flag bearer of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state; as against Joseph Tegbe, whom most party men had thought promising for the ticket.
Although, Adelabu’s ambition to the Agodi exalted office of the state was truncated by Governor-elect, Seyi Makinde of the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP; one would have expected eternal loyalty and subordination from Adelabu who was beneficiary of the benevolence and magnanimity of the leadership of Ajimobi; even when the odds didn’t favor his candidacy, Ajimobi sticked to his guns to route for him. At least if all had gone as their camp had mapped out, he (Adelabu) would have been the current governor of Oyo State in the waiting.
After his woeful outing in the March 9 election in Oyo State, losing 28 of the 33 local governments to Makinde, Adelabu has been underscored as becoming bracingly disloyal to Oyo Governor.
It is no longer news that the former Central Bank Deputy Governor had been thumping APC party leaders of the state in the nose, accusing them of complacency which was instrumental to his defeat. Adelabu now boycotts Ajimobi, to now frolick with party leaders in Abuja, and trying to hobnob for a ministerial position, in President Buhari’s soon to be formed cabinet.
Adelabu’s disloyalty and defiance was further proven today (April 5), which happens to be the birthday of Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Florence Abiola-Ajimobi; with a roll call of crème dela creme and top echelon society personalities present to felicitate with the Ajimobi’s, it is surprising to find Adelabu missing.
Fingered for his absence, Adelabu’s ‘flimsy’ excuse is that he is away in London, ‘on a medical trip’. Well, the veracity of the claim is not what we seek to question in this article. What this article underscores is Adelabu’s sense of disregard.
It is noteworthy, that flight time from London to Lagos is only about seven hours; which presupposes that Adelabu can catch a Virgin Atlantic flight back into Nigeria to attend the event of a family he benefited from, had he not held them with light-hand.
For a fact, he doesn’t have a medical appointment for April 5, which means he could have flown into the country April 4 and catch a night flight back to London on Saturday.
Among dignitaries present today at the event were Wife of Vice President, Mrs. Osinbajo, Mrs. Fayemi Wife of Ekiti Governor, Mrs. Oyetola wife of the Governor, State of Osun,
Mrs. Wife of Imo State Governor, Mrs. Okorocha.
