The Government of the State of Osun has been admonished to rejuvenate the teaching and learning of Yoruba language in schools across the state in a bid to further protect the Yoruba heritage and pride.
The Osun council of Obas gave the admonition during the monthly council of Obas meeting held at the conference hall of the state Ministry of Finance, government secretariat, Abere.
Speaking on behalf of the Council the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja11, said it has become imperative for government to rekindle the interest of the younger generation in the understanding of Yoruba language.
The royal father expressed the fear that the Yoruba language is gradually fading away among the younger generation, noting that if urgent steps are not taken the language may go into extinction.
While charging all stakeholders to swing into necessary action, the front line monarch explained that the state of Osun being the cradle of the Yoruba race should be in the forefront of propagating the race and everything that has to do with the Yoruba culture and traditions.
The obviously delighted Ooni expressed appreciation to the administration of Mr Gboyega Oyetola for making efforts to resuscitate the the statutory meeting of the monarchs, just as he promised that the royal fathers will continue to support the government to make life better for residents of the state.
While admonishing citizens of the state to go about peacefully during and after the state House of Assembly elections, the Chairman of the council of Obas promised that the royal fathers in the state will assist government in revenue generation as they too will become tax marshals in their various dormains.
Delivering an address during the meeting, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the State, Prince Gboyega Famodun, thanked the royal fathers on behalf of the Governor for their support during the last gubernatorial election in the state.
Famodun reiterate the efforts of the Gboyega Oyetola administration in the area of infrastructure development while promising that the the governor will not disappoint them.
