It was a tale of mega endorsement and heap of support for the Kwara State Peoples Democratic Parties (PDP) on Friday, as Four notable traditional rulers from Kwara North pledged their support for the PDP Governorship Candidate in the March 2, Gubernatorial election, Rt. Hon. Razak Atunwa.
They are the Emirs of Ilesha Baruba HRH Alhaji Halidu Abubakar, Gwanara, HRH Alhaji Idris Sabi Abubaka and Okuta HRH Alhaji Idris Abubakar and that of Yashikira Emir of Yashikira, HRH Alhaji Umaru Usman Sariki.
The endorsement is coming on the heels of Atunwa’s visit to the traditional rulers, to seek their support and royal blessings ahead of the Party’s Campaign flag off.
At Ilesha Baruba, where he made his first stop, Atunwa was received at the Emir’s Palace by a jubilant crowd, amidst wide cheer, praises and excitement.
The Emir of Ilesha Baruba HRH Alhaji Halidu Abubakar who could not hide his feeling and joy, noted that the impressive turnout of his people was a testament to the unprecedented achievement and contributions of Senator Bukola Saraki to the growth and development of the community.
“Senator Bukola Saraki has been kind to us in Ilesha Baruba so why won’t I support him?” The Emir asked rhetorically.
“I am giving Kwara PDP support, because of Bukola Saraki.” The Emir declared
Speaking earlier, The People’s Democratic Party Candidate, Rt. Hon. Razak Atunwa applauded the Emir of Ilesha Baruba for the warm reception.
He explained that the Emir’s blessing has become imperative as the Party’s campaign flag off draws closer.
“To flag-off a campaign, there are some places we need to visit before the commencement. Ilesha-Baruba is pivotal to that extent. We have come for your blessing, prayers and your wisdom.” Atunwa said.
Speaking on his track record, Atunwa mentioned that he had served in different capacities, which has helped to strengthen his ability and build his capacity for the task ahead.
He recalled that he was “first, Commissioner for Land and Housing, from there I moved to the ministry of Works and later became commissioner for Finance before becoming the Kwara State speaker at the State House of Assembly and now a member of the National Assembly.”
“The government that we will form will be your government. It will be a government that will look after the generality of Kwara and your interests.” Atunwa reiterated.
Also speaking, the Deputy DG Atunwa organization Kwara north, Hon Issa Bawa ,said the visit to the Palace was to seek his Royal blessing ahead of the flag off. He however thanked the Emir profusely for his immense support.
The Campaign team moved from the palace to address Party stakeholders from where they moved to Gwanara.
In Gwanara, Atunwa was warmly received by an overwhelming number of supporters, loyalist and party members alike.
Receiving the Kwara PDP Candidate at his Palace the Emir of Gwanara, HRH Alhaji Idris Sabi Abubakar,
pledged his support for Atunwa, considering his remarkable public service record and wealth of experience.
“Atunwa has the requsite competence and capacity to sustain the gains of the past by consolidating with creative ideas and solutions that will meet the needs of our people” The Emir said.
Atunwa applauded the Emir for the role he has played in nation building and efforts at sustaining the cohesion and unity among the people of the area.
The Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Candidate also visited the Emir of Okuta, HRH Alhaji Idris Abubakar.
The Emir recalled the numerous intervention of the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki to the community. He noted that Sen. Saraki had contributed immensely to the growth and development of the community.
Speaking earlier, Rt. Hon. Razak Atunwa assured the Emir of his commitment to improve the welfare of Kwarans, by priotizing their access to affordable health, free and compulsory Education and the provision of opportunities by making the state a private sector led Economy through the empowerment of entrepreneurs and Providing enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
In Yashikira, the PDP Governorship Candidate Rt. Hon. Razak Atunwa was warmly received by the Emir, HRH Alhaji Umaru Usman Sariki.
The Emir pledged his support for Atunwa, whom he described as a deserving and worthy Successor. He said, Atunwa had distinguished himself throughout his public service career, with his noteworthy achievements and visible contributions, most especially to the socio economic development of Kwara State.
In his appreciation remarks, Rt. Hon. Razak Atunwa promised to provide enabling environment for the Economic activities in the region to thrive.
He noted, Kwara North is blessed with human and material resources. He promised to harness the human and material resources in the region for accelerated growth and development.
