EKITI EXPECTS A BETTER DEAL AS SENATE COMMITTEE ON ROADS VISITS EKITI AND OTHER STATES IN THE SOUTH WEST

By Snr. Kosija

Movement is one of the characteristics of living organisms as we were taught in elementary sciences. Man by nature has devised veritable means through technological innovations for the ease of transportation. Wherever there is land, vehicles of all kinds are made, ships, boats and canoe for waterways, train for rail and aircraft for air transportation. Every means of transportation has it’s peculiarities, challenges and advantages.

Road transportation has been with us for years. It’s the first means of transportation available to almost everyone. Apart from convenience and affordability, it’s readily available to all. It’s the commonest patronized means of transportation especially by the masses who rely on those in government for succor. This is one of the reasons why every responsible government places premium on good roads in order to palliate the sufferings of the people as it relates to their transportation needs.

Ekiti State Government, under the leadership of Dr. John Kayode Fayemi received the Senate Committee on Roads a couple of days back and it was a fruitful meeting as Federal Government roads in the State are billed for a serious attention, in no distant time.
Ado – Akure which connects Ikere with Iju-Itaogbolu in Ondo state will wear a new look. This road has been dualized by Ekiti State Government from Ado to Ikere. It’s worthy to note that this road significantly connects the Ekiti State Capital with Ondo State capital. Considerably, the dualization, when it sails through, will enhance interstate commerce, as the ease of doing business is greatly enhanced by a free flow of people and goods.

The Ado – Ikare road is in a terrible shape as it has become increasingly difficult for two vehicles to easily ply at once without hassle because of its narrowness and potholes. This road from Ado to Ikare in Ondo State leads to the federal capital territory. Apart from providing motorists with a beautiful alternative, it will reduce loss of lives and properties due to unnecessary congestions on other federal government roads. Likewise, Ado – Ifaki – Otun – Omuaran road, being an interstate road between Ekiti and Kwara will speed up economic growth in those areas. The northern part of the country is easily accessed through Kwara State and Ekiti people would take advantage of it to grow their commercial activities which will rub off positively on the people.

Ifaki – Ikole – Omuo which connects Abuja through Kabba, Ado-Aramoko-Ijero road, Ado – Efon – Iwaraja road and other federal roads which were pegged for rehabilitations are also very key and require considerable attentions. Consequent upon the loss of lives on our roads, hardship from deplorable conditions of the roads, risk of the nefarious activities of kidnapping and loss of properties, it’s highly commendable for the Senate Committee on roads to have taken such initiative to visit the entire States in the South West, in order to assess the situations firsthand. Assuredly, we are in for a good time in 2019 as these roads will find their ways into the 2019 budgetary allocation of the Federal Government. This is aside the railroad projects that are also in the pipeline. Hope is also alive to have Federal Government fulfils it’s obligations as regards the outstanding indebtedness to Ekiti- State on jobs already completed and certified by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Surely, sun is already shining on our land, as JKF goes to work. Kudos also goes to President Buhari, for putting us back, on the map.
