The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, had presented over 1,000 chairs and desks to 18 government owned primary schools in the local government area.
The Agunbiade primary school venue of the presentation was full of community, political and religious leaders. At the presentations ceremony, parents, pupils and their teachers were delighted to see the executives and councilors of the local government delivering a dividend of democracy.
While addressing the audience at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman, Hon. Bowale Sosimi who represented the Executive Chairman, said the furniture presentation is an election promise kept, “today’s occasion would attest to our electioneering campaign and promise to improve the quality of education at the Local Government level. This is just a tip of the iceberg of our plans to improve the standard and quality of education”.
However, the Executive Chairman emphasize the commitment of Somolu Local Government to education. “I wish to state that this administration since inception has procured G.C.E and Jamb forms regularly to qualified students of this area. We have also inaugurated adult education literacy centres at strategic locations to cater for adults in order to give them second chance to have access to writing and reading. You will all agree with me that education propel progress and development of any Community. In the light of this, we are working tirelessly to improve the standard”, Dullar said.
Primary schools that benefited from the furniture include Agunbiade Primary School, Baptist Primary School, Ola-Oluwa Primary School, Wright Memorial Primary School, Wesley Memorial Primary School, Ijebu-Tedo Primary School, Palmgrove; S.S Peter $ Paul Primary School, Odunlade Primary School, Oke-Meta Primary School, Adebule Primary School, Modupe primary school, ST.Augustine Primary School, ST.Paul (U.N.A.) Primary School, ST. Peter (U.N.A.) Primary School, Bashua Military Primary, Jehova Shallom Primary School, Igbobi Primary School and National Othorpaedic Special School. The schools received 30 sets of two-seater chairs and desks. Representatives of the pupils appreciate the Chairman and prayed for the Local Government.
In his goodwill message, the Education Secretary of Somolu Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Mr. Abidemi Oyatope, expressed his gratitude to the Local Government Chairman to make learning more interesting for the pupils.
Among dignitaries at the event are Hon. Yomi Osunkoya (Leader of the Council) and other councilors, Ogbeni Taiwo Adesanya (Secretary to the Local Government) with other supervising councilors. Mrs. Tanwa Yusuf (Chairperson), Special Advisers on WAPA, Education, Social-Welfare, Works and other aides of the multiple award winning Executive Chairman.
Dullar used the medium of the event to hint the gathering of the programming going on to facilitate teaching and learning in schools. “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I want to inform this esteemed gathering that we have concluded plans and arrangement for Uniforms, Schoolbags, Sandals and customised exercise books for (4,280) Four Thousand, Two Hundred And Eighty pupils in all our 18 Primary Schools in the Local Government Area” Dullar assured.
