Sen Gbenga Ashafa is an unusual Nigeria politician, He has seen it all in all sphere of life having worked at the local government level, HE MADE A SOJOURN IN SEARCH OF GREENER PASTURES TO THE UNITED STATES and would eventually rise in the civil servic to run the oil of Lagos as Permanent Secretary in charge of Lands. With this position, he changed the perception of how government business is done with the introduction of smart innovations which, within a short period of time brought the department  as the number two revenue generation source for the Lago State Government. This was before is sojourn to the Senate
While many say Sen Ashafa is not the kind of politician who will readily walk into the local bukateria  and sit to eat with the people, he has concentrated on delivering project which has seen every in his constituency benefit
Sen Ashafa describes Asiwaju Tinubu’s  resolve to ensure direct primaries as one of the reasons why the APC National Leader  is far ahead of his peers, Direct primaries is the answer to full representation of the people want and to a large extent curb vote buying while at the same time kill whatever outcome of the different court cases in court among APC Lagos
Ashafa has an interesting background, Born Olugbenga Bareehu Ashafa in the Luther/Bamgbose/Campos area of Lagos Island on 22 July 1955, he is the second child of a commodity merchant Lawal Kakanfo Ashafa, and a textile and gold merchant Tesmot Ojuolape Elemoro.
The young Ashafa started his education at Christ Church Cathedral Primary School, Broad Street, Lagos between 1961 and 1968. He attended CMS Grammar School, Lagos where he finished his secondary education in 1973. Ashafa then went on to study Biological Sciences at Morgan State University, Maryland, USA earning a Bachelor of Science degree (Cum Laude) in June 1978. He earned a Masters of Science degree in Public Health Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1979
Upon completing the mandatory National Youth Service programme  at the Federal Ministry of Health in 1980,  Ashafa commenced a career in public service as an administrative officer in the Lagos State Unified Local Government Service Commission. He rose to the rank of Area Officer in charge of the Departmental Tenders Board and the Finance and General Purpose Committee.
In 1990, Ashafa left the public sector for French-Calahan Ventures Limited, which held majority shares in a state controlled cocoa processing plant. He worked as Purchasing Manager at the processing plant for six years until 1996. In 1996, Ashafa founded a company called Beverage Specialties Limited, manufacturers of Choco-Vita (a liquid vitality drink) and Cocoa-Vita (a powdered vitality drink), a business which he has since sold.
 To those asking why Ashafa wants a 3rd term at he Senate, his answer is simple: “it is all about service and service and in advanced democracy, the more a senator stays in the chambers the better he becomes. Ashafa bills and constituency projects are listed below:
