The Director General of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Council, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, has appealed to Ekiti voters to escape the pitfall by not voting the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Prof. Kolapo Olusola, in the July 14 governorship election.
Bamidele warned that the grave mistake Ekiti voters made in the June 21, 2014 governorship election that produced Governor Ayodele Fayose is still haunting the masses, saying it will be a beginning of pangs and gnashing of teeth for them to commit the same blunder in this coming election.
The member of the seventh House of Representatives, said the coming election was a veritable avenue to correct the errors of the past and not an opportunity to aggravate the sufferings in the land occasioned by maladministration and misplaced priority of government’s policies.
The Fayemi’s campaign boss spoke in a statement from his office and signed by his media aide, Ahmed Salami in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.
Bamidele said the PDP has no clear cut manifesto with which it intended to radicalize the system and develop Ekiti unlike the APC that has a centralized blueprint being universally adopted by the governors on the party’s platform to confront poverty and bring the populace out of this messy situation.
He said: “The coming election is an opportunity for the mistakes of the past to be rectified. The ghost of the 2014 is still haunting us up to now. It was a day when the masses out of emotions voted for suffering, poverty and undeserved neglect.
“That was why policies that had brought pride to us as a state revered for having one of the most populist government in Nigeria were abrogated under Governor Fayose’s regime.
“ The Social Security Scheme, Youth in Commercial Agriculture, Volunteer Youth Corps, Ekiti Peace Corps that produced a safety net for over 40,000 Ekiti people are no longer in operation. The food Bank system and Village Kitchens, amdignified policy established by the APC administration in the state to give feeding supports to the indigent, have been jettisoned for the that highly beggarly stomach infrastructure.
“In the area of education, the reformed bursary and scholarship scheme initiated by Fayemi that funded the education of over 100 PhD students, 250 Masters, over 1,000 Law School students and several degree students had been abolished. Even students could no longer access the paltry N10,000 annual bursary to cushion the effect of highly ravaging poverty in the system.
“Under Fayemi, Salaries are paid as and when due while the running grants to Ministries, Departments and Agencies of governments were well structured and released in accordance to the Civil Service Rule.
What we have today is a governor releasing such based on political affiliation leaving behind officers he suspected not to belong to his political camp to suffer unduly.
“We must have a retrospect for us not to be entrapped in his coming election. We want to assure workers and the good people of Ekiti State that Fayemi would bring back the old good days when the labourers won’t be subjected to pangs before getting their rewards if given the second chance to rule the State”, he stated.
Bamidele promised that the coming Fayemi’s government will allow the people to take full ownership of government as dictated by democracy all over the world in line with the widespread belief that power and sovereignty lie with the masses.
He commended the good people of the State for their suggestions and cooperation with Fayemi’s campaign train across the 177 wards in Ekiti, saying the exhibition of love for APC and glowing passion for change have helped in lubricating every existing friction and make the path more navigable.
