Former Governor Of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has felicitated with Muslims and Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Eid-El-Fitri festival.
Congratulating the Muslims world over on the successful completion of the 30-day fasting period, Otunba Daniel urged them to be guided by the tenets of the Holy month of Ramadan in self-discipline, perseverance, contentment, sharing and love.
He called on Nigerians to use the period to reflect on the current challenges facing the nation especially that of anxiety occasioned by insecurity and sectional conflicts.
“No country can thrive in the presence of bitterness, hostility, disunity and conflict. There is the need for re-orientation and basic understanding of nationhood by being more sensitive to the well being of one another and fostering unity required for nation building”.
He also called on every well meaning Nigerian to eschew all forms of rumour peddling that will only mislead the people and undermine the unity required for nation building.
Commending the media for their role as the fourth estate of the realm and the nation’s ombudsman, he challenged practitioners to do more by digging deep and shunning unconfirmed reports, propaganda and half-truths that can mislead and influence public opinion negatively.
“When leaders, professionals and intellectuals engage in convincing debates and unmodified discuss, the people will be well informed and the nation will move forward.”
“History of our nationhood has revealed that propaganda, ignorance, lack of information have been the bane of our overall development as a nation. Our opinion moulders should therefore positively inform and re-orientate the people especially the youth for them to be able to make the best choice of aspirants and candidates as the 2019 general elections close in”
