The Kayode Fayemi Campaign Council has warned Governor Ayodele Fayose and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Prof Olusola Eleka, against violent attacks on the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It said APC would resist any attempt to cow its leaders and members in the countdown to the July 14 governnorship election.
The Director of Media and Publicity of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Council, Wole Olujobi, in a statement on Wednesday said the era of unbridled attacks on the opposition was over, saying that Fayose and Eleka should note that the 2014 violent attacks on APC leaders would not go unchallenged in 2018.
The campaign council was reacting to the attack and threat on the hotel owned by former APC governorship aspirant, Dr. Wole Oluyede, where the campaign billboard the medical doctor donated to Fayemi was destroyed in the night attack that went with the booming of the guns.
Olujobi said no threat of violence will dampen the spirits of Ekiti people from seeking salvation in Fayemi, “the man they can trust as manifested in his first term when his words were his bond”.
He said: “Fayose in the last three and half years has proven conclusively that he cannot be trusted with the mandate of the people to run their affairs in transparent manner for the benefit of all.
“With their naked eyes, Ekiti people have seen visionlessness, maladministration, selfish leadership, greed, corruption and callous appropriation of the Ekiti commonwealth in Fayose’s leadership style and so they have opted for a man that once demonstrated vision, honesty, transparency and commitment to grow Ekiti State to a first class community of decent people, including building a society that holds much promise for the future of Ekiti people.
“We want Fayose and Eleka to remember that this is not 2014 when they freely unleashed violence on Fayemi and other APC leaders on the streets of Ado-Ekiti and so should not this time serve our leaders their campaign of violence tea.
“Security agencies must halt this slip into violence being orchestrated by Fayose and his candidate through whom he wants to perpetuate mass poverty and fraud in the administration of the state.
“Fayemi’s supporters and APC members in general are advised to call the attention of security agencies to any threats to them, as there is adequate security to protect them before, during and after the election,” Olujobi said.
