Atiku never visted jang Prison service

Atiku11The Nigerian Prisons Service has debunked news reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited a former Plateau State governor at its prison facility in Jos.

For Plateau governor, Jonah Jang, now a serving senator, was remanded in prison following his arraignment on alleged N6.3 billion fraud. His bail application is expected to be heard tomorrow.

But news reports emerged between Sunday night and Monday morning, purporting that Mr Abubakar was amongst politicians who thronged to Jos to see Mr Jang in prison over the weekend.

“That report is fictitious and brewed from fallacies,” Luka Ayedoo, a spokesperson for the NPS in Jos, said in an e-mail to PREMIUM TIMES Monday evening.

“The Command has not in any away confirmed such visit to any media house. Hence, such section of the report should be shed, as it is aimed at misleading the public,” Mr Ayedoo added.

PREMIUM TIMES did not publish the story, which had earlier been debunked by Mr Abubakar’s media office.

In its reaction, the former vice president’s media office gave a rundown of his activities since last Thursday, demonstrating that he was busy in his home state of Adamawa within the period in question and never traveled to Jos.
