Why I want to be Ekiti Governor says Adebomi

AN ADDRESS PRESENTED TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OF EKITI STATE ON WHY I WANT TO BE THE GOVERNOR OF EKITI STATE

My good people of Ekiti State, bearing in mind the need to rescue and liberate our beloved State; coupled with deep reflection and wide consultation with stakeholders and elders who cherish the importance of providing good leadership, I have declared my intention earlier to run for the office of the Governor of Ekiti State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2018. I am offering myself for service in the knowledge that I have a programme of action that would elevate the state and our people economically, socially and politically.

I will like to reveal some of the reasons why I want to be the Governor.

More importantly, I am confident that I am eminently qualified and able in all ramifications to serve as the Governor of the state and perform much better than the sad experience we have had in the last three years.

I did not  get into politics for my selfish gain, I am only contesting for Governorship because I understand my people, I understand what they want , and I want to serve them, and I am ready to provide leadership and fight for our future.

First and foremost, Security, safety and protection shall be the major focus, I want to let every citizen of Ekiti State, home and abroad, including foreign investors know that I will use my experience as a retired Captain of the United States of America Army to coordinate best security apparatus and state security intelligence agency that will liaise with the Nigerian Army and our national police force to make sure that no life or business is at risk in Ekiti State.

The economy situation of our state is very poor, without federal allocations, the state cannot survive. Our renowned educational institutions are decaying, while unemployment and youth restiveness are visible. Trust in the present government is low and the essentials needed to stimulate socio-economic development are most lacking. Our dear state needs the best, compassionate manager, most honest, experienced, educated Personnel  like me (Captain Sunday Adebomi) to run the state so that what comes to Ekiti State from the federation account and our local resources are put to the best use in the service of our people.

Our mandate will provide good governance, boost human-capital development, cultivate conducive business environment and make the pursuit of people and Prosperity a unifying factor for all residents of the State.

Our administration shall create enabling environment for the youths, women, artisans, aged, and trade unions by giving them unhindered opportunities to excel and contribute to the growth of the economy

We shall vigorously pursue policies that will encourage and support business owners to establish industries and businesses in Ekiti State to pave way for the much needed economic growth and job creation for our teaming youths.

We shall institute the three tenets of Probity, Accountability and Transparency (PAT) as a government policy. Our government will empower the civil service for effective and efficient service delivery through reforms, reduction of corruption, eliminating duplication of functions which result to role conflicts and minimizing waste of public resources.

We shall run a transparent and accountable government, ensuring prudent management of the state resources. We shall promote affordable, qualitative and functional education, from Primary to Tertiary level. Our government shall execute a merit based scholarship program where every student of Ekiti State origin in any tertiary Institution with a Second-Class Upper and above or its equivalent will automatically qualify for scholarship.

My programme of action covers all aspects of human and societal development at the micro and macro levels including agriculture, commerce and industry, education, health, security, infrastructure, among others.

Our goal is to make agriculture the key driver of the economy and the source of new jobs for our youths. Our government intends to empower the existing farmers, encourage new generations of farmers and support commercial agriculture by creating better access to land use, farm inputs and machineries.

Our government shall also be absolutely committed to the health and well-being of the people of Ekiti State. The policies and programs are aimed at first, reducing incidence of diseases through promotion and enforcement of environmental sanitation and preventive healthcare.

We shall pay special attention to the diagnostic and curative capacities of our Primary and Secondary Health facility. Maternal and Child mortality is a global sensitive issue and so rather than just create specialized hospitals for pregnancy issue, every hospital shall be made both mother and child friendly such that every hospital from specialist to Basic Health Centres in all nooks and crannies of our state will be adequately equipped with qualified, experienced personnel and facilities to ensure that all pregnant women in the state, experience easy and successful delivery.

The continuous neglect of infrastructure both in urban and rural areas has had heavy tolls on the socio- economic activities of the state and by consequence the welfare of our people. We shall commence immediate rehabilitation of township roads, rural roads among others. The state and local governments will work together in a coordinated manner to achieve accelerated infrastructure development. Roads, water and electricity will be given greater priority with budgetary vote. We shall embark on a major state wide public works program to expand, upgrade and refurbish the infrastructural fabric of Ekiti State, so that its residents can enjoy a better quality of life.

Our government will deliberately revive all moribund and abandoned Industries using the public private partnership model whereby government equity will be minimal to enhance efficiency.

We shall consider home ownership a basic necessity and we will do everything possible to achieve this by the introduction of House Ownership Scheme to enable desiring individuals own houses. We shall restructure and strengthen Ekiti State Housing Corporation to fulfill and deliver its mandate.

Our administration shall put every effort in place to tackle and prevent the menace of flood and erosion in Ekiti State. We shall strategically partner with renowned waste management experts for effective and suitable conversion of our waste to wealth through Public private sector Partnership (PPP). There will be an organized systems of waste separation, collection, deposition and recycling. We intend to put in place landscaping programmes that will conform to professional standard in modern aesthetic and still remain environmental friendly. Our vision is to embrace current scientific methods in controlling and managing our environment.

We shall re-visit Ikogosi warm spring to ensure regular maintenance and adequate production. We shall recognize and harness the unique culture and tradition of our various ethics units with investment made to showcase them to the international communities.

Ekiti state is rich in culture but unfortunately the opportunities for wealth creation through tourism have been largely under exploited.

I pledge that if you elect me as the Governor of Ekiti State in the election of 2018, by the grace of God, you will find in me a diligent keeper of promises and restorer of hope. I am humbled by the support, encouragement and goodwill I have received from our people throughout the length and breadth of the state. I want to be your Chief servant in 2018 through your supports and votes.
