Former Vice-President, Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, is dead, a statement attributed to the family said.
The statement issued last night said that the revered politician died in London, where he was flown exactly a week earlier by the Nigerian Government for further treatment.
The elder statesman, who recently turned 85, was first treated at a local hospital in Enugu after collapsing at his Independence Layout residence in the Coal City around 2am on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
Signed by his younger brother, HRH. Prof Laz Ekwueme, the Igwe of Oko in Anambra State, the short statement reads: “The Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON. The sad event occurred at The London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”
