Best OF Nollywood Awards Releases Nominess for Bon 2017

Statement of the Screeners’ Committee, Best of Nollywood Awards,

2017

I welcome you to the formal unveiling of nominees for the 2017 edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards.  This marks the end of four months of intense activities which started with our call for entries.

This year, we had over 128 films of which 120 including 113 feature films, seven short films and two Tv series were screened. Eight others were disqualified for various reasons relating to not meeting entry requirement.

On the whole, we can say that practitioners are doing all possible to raise the bar of production even though a lot of entries still leave much to be desired. One sure thing however is that Nigerian filmmakers are doing their best to attain international standards and they need to be encouraged.

The point should also be paid about the reduction in the number of Hausa, Igbo and films made in other languages this year. BON prides itself as a promoter of the beauty that exists in our diversity, we see films as a veritable way of preserving our culture and appeal to our filmmakers to produce more films in local languages and bring forward for the awards.

On behalf of members of the Screeners Committee, I thank the Executive Director of the BON Award and the organising for the opportunity to serve and congratulate everyone who have entered to the awards and the nominees especially. It is a thing of total pleasure to be together with you in the quest to honour the best of the film industry in Nigeria and encourage us all to be better.
