Reports filtered the cyberspace on the account of how Governor of Ogun State, Ibikun Amosun, protected Mrs. Idiat Babalola, an All Progressive Congress, APC, stalwart in the State of Osun, from being lynched by aggravated mob, who were irked by her presence, at the interment of first governor of the state, Isiaka Adeleke, on Monday, April 24, in the Ede residence of the deceased.
The irate mob had claimed that Babalola, a commissioner-nominee, of Governor of the state of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, was an accomplice in the successful murder plot of the deceased serving senator and aspiring governor of the state, by a faction of the APC, and that the eventual gambit was to brighten the chance of Babalola, as the running mate of the supposed consensus candidate of the party.
Feeling that her condolences were crocodile attributed, the indigenes persisted that she must leave the venue of the funeral. The youth decided to take laws into their hands by quivering the tent she was under with governors Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, brother of the deceased Deji Adeleke and other dignitaries. The canopy reportedly collapsed on the governors and others underneath.
Nonetheless, the governor of Ogun state, Amosun stole the day by protecting Babalola to safety, until she was driven away in a vehicle.
Some quarters have wondered why it was Governor Amosun that decided to bear the burns, by aiding the helpless female politician to safety.
Howbeit, the governor has been a subject of debate and careful understudy; and it has been observed that the number one man of the sunshine state has a track record of having a soft for female politicians. It cannot be overemphasized that the Nigerian polity is currently saturated with the dominance of male politicians, taking the front burner.
Thus, a few gladiators like Amosun have been spotlighted to encouraging females to get on the surge of politicking. This noteworthy trait of the governor can be underscored by the number of women in his cabinet.
The governor can be indubitably posited to have a smooth working relationship with his deputy, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, and this can be substantiated in from the verity and accomplishment of their administration in the last six years so far.
The cabinet of the Amosun is also laced with several female bright minds from Hon. Commissioners Ronke Sokefun in charge of Urban and Physical Planning, Abiola Kufile-Okonji in charge of Ministry of Women Affairs, Ronke Onadeko in charge of Ministry of Agriculture and so on.
This is also not forgetting that our articulate Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, was nominated by the governor.
