Governor Peter A. Fayose
Government House
Ado Ekiti
Your Excellency,
I have had occasions to write letters to you, twice in the past, the first was to congratulate you, on your election while the second was to make comments on the state of events in our state and advise you, on the way forward.
I have, since, being watching events as they unfold, from my ordinary voter’s angle, to avoid being, unduly, partisan. Am, however constrained to write again, as a stakeholder in the project-Ekiti, by some of the comments you made, published by some of the dailies.
I haven’t being coming to Ekiti, in recent times, am, therefore, not in a position to say how well governance is interfacing with our peoples’ desires and aspirations. I, wholeheartedly, commend your claim of refusal to get distracted by undue criticisms, especially, those you consider driven by mere partisan interests-to we voters, politics ended on the election day, ce fini
Having said these, your Excellency, your views about having an airport in Ekiti and a flyover in Ado Ekiti look misdirected-yes this might be your passion but this is about public money being spent in public interest. You hold that office in trust for us and generations of Ekitis yet unborn. Nothing, in Ekiti, today, suggests that an airport in Ado would break even-it is a mere grandiose project. Similarly, the traffic situation in Ado can be improved without, necessarily, incurring the huge costs of a flyover.
There are more fundamental challenges to life in Ekiti and I would be glad if these can be confronted so life, in our communities, gets better. The last time I came to Ekiti, I noticed tattered roofs atop a public school, one, entering Otun from Erimope; two, entering Aiyetoro from Ilorin. I wondered the kind of mindset we build in young kids being trained in such a school, especially when they also watch as elected officers cruise around in expensive jeeps! Your Excellency, what about revamping agriculture, with a view to building a robust ant sustainable economy, free of FG’s handouts , in our state? I was pleased, to read in one of the newspapers, of your government’s efforts to change the underground water pipes, so water can flow in our homes again-it’s a commendable initiative. Using our youths in direct labour- excecution of these public projects, under the supervision of the professionals, in government employment, might cost the state less and empower the youths, thus reducing criminality. We need no contractor to uproot those cables-the maps showing their locations are available in the relevant ministries.
Your Excellency, don’t see mine, as partisan comments-am not a fan of either your party or the opposition. To me, little or no difference exists between the two of them. Mine is a concern of a committed stakeholder who believes that, now and till death comes, I have no other place to call a home, outside of Ekiti-everywhere, else am a stranger and, even, an alien, in some places.
You need to interface with Ekitis of all classes-there are no permanent friends or enemies in politics. This is the secret of the success stories of our legacy politicians of the first republic and the LOOBO governors of the then UPN.
May you continue to have the special courage to serve God, through the people.
Yours sincerely
