Armed militants of Ijaw extraction have kidnapped a prominent landlord in the Igbo-Olomu. The kidnappers who took the landlord away in a speed boat are demanding for 10million ransom. The latest victim was identified as 70 year old Williams Omotosho.
“The kidnappers took him away in the presence of this wife and children. They came in the early hours of today and stormed the house with sophisticate weapons. They shot to scare people away. The landlord was taken away around 3am this morning”, Mr Samuel Ajayi-Adio, another landlord in the area who fled late last week, told Irohinoodua today.
According to Adio, many landlords have vacated their ancestral homes due to the renewed onslaught by the militants operating in the area.
“Many landlords are leaving their homelands in large numbers. Though they have brought soldiers and policemen, this has done little to curtail the activities of the militants” he said, adding that the militants are better equipped and operate in connivance with some security operatives. The landlord said over 30 people are currently in the camp of the militants including women and housewives being used as sex slaves.
“Many men had their wives taken away by force. They are being used as sex slaves. It’s like Nigeria is becoming a jungle where anything goes”, another landlord in the area told Irohinoodua this morning.
Barely a forthnight ago, prominent Yoruba leaders met with Ijaw leaders at the Eko L’oMeridian Hotel where efforts were made to resolve the lingering crisis. The Ijaw nation led by Chief Albert Harriman had said that though the attacks were carried out by people of Ijaw extraction but that they were not acting on behalf of the Ijaw nation. A contact committee was set up to ensure regular meetings between the representatives of the two nations.
