DANIEL C. NWODI, UMU ANIOMA MEMBER AND FOUNDER OF STUDENTS WITHOUT BORDERS SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN PRESIDENT OBAMA’S YOUNG AFRICAN LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE (YALI)
Atlanta, GA- November 13, 2015 – Umu Anioma Foundation is proud to announce that one of its youth leaders, Daniel Chinedu Nwodi was selected as one out of 40 representatives from Nigeria currently participating in The Emerging Leaders Program which is geared to teach young African leaders about modern leadership over a period of 17 weeks. The program is broken down into four phases – a 5 week coursework phase delivered in-person or online, and is currently taking place at Regional Leadership Centre, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration Campus, Accra,Ghana; runs from November 2 toDecember 4, 2015
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by President of the United States Barack Obama as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders. The need to invest in grooming strong, results-oriented leaders comes out of the statistics: nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and approximately 60% of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35. Who will empower and lead these young Africans? Who will shape the future of business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, and public management? In order to answer these questions, YALI promotes three models designed to identify and empower young leaders: the YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship, YALI Networkand now the establishment of Regional Leadership Centers across Africa.
Speaking on the phone earlier todaywith the Convener of Umu Anioma Worldwide Daniel Nwodi said “The program has been a great experience for me. Many thanks to President Obama for this laudable initiative that is helping to build a better Africa by investing in us the African youth. It is a breath of fresh air to know that President Obama recognizes the importance of the Nigerian youth as an asset in the transformation of our country”

In August 2014, Bro. “This year, Bro. Daniel has been helping with the planning of this year’s Umu Anioma World Convention as a member of the Umu Anioma Spirit of Community Awards Selection Committee. I know the sky is the limit for this young man and I take personal pride in seeing someone I mentor take such great strides in sharpening his leadership skills. Bro Daniel is one of the Umu Anioma youth leaders that I can say, understands clearly well, that leadership is about service to others” said Ohai.
