Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday stated that policies of Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led administration is “killing” private businesses in the state while no job opportunity is being created by the state government.

The party also alleged that there are specific plans targeted at businesses of those Governor Aregbesola considered as opposition, enemy and unfriendly to his government.

According to a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday on behalf of Osun PDP by Prince Diran Odeyemi, copies of which were obtained by newsmen, the party said at least three of the best hotels within the state capital are being put up for sale owing to “indebtedness to them by Osun state government and excessive taxation.

“Even those businesses that are still surviving now are having their “souls” hanging by a thread. Many of them have reduced their staff strength by up to half because of poor patronage occasioned by policies of Aregbesola’s government that favour mainly Lagos based tax companies.”

The statement further reads: “Specifically, we need to inform the whole world that, there have been several overt and covert efforts to get a private radio station that employees directly and indirectly, over 50 personnel, Crown Fm located in Ile Ife and owned by Senator Iyiola Omisore closed down by Aregbesola for no justifiable reason.

“Agents of government have been daily besieging the station demanding with malicious aims, either land survey of the building that house the outfit or the receipt for the gate at its entrance.

“We have also been informed that Crown Fm has been penciled down for huge taxes and dues all in the bid to force the station out of business. We remind Mr. Aregbesola that his Unique Fm operated without hitch when PDP controlled government of Osun, therefore we see no reason why Crown FM radio station will be object of attacks from him.”

The party then urged Governor Aregbesola to be more tolerant and be ready to provide conducive environment for businesses to grow regardless of who own them, adding that since he has failed to provide jobs and pay those working with government, he should not send more people to labour market through draconian policies stifling businesses.
