Osun state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has been accused of “secretly appointing” Lagos based Osun indigenes as special members of boards of agencies and parastatals even as he has refused to pay workers from the N35billion bailout he collected since 28th of August.
Disclosing this in a press statement issued in Osogbo yesterday, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through its director of media and publicity, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said members of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, appointed as members of governing boards have started collecting their letters and resuming duties.
“The appointments are done secretly, for instance, the account department of Lautech Teaching hospital has been taken over by some strange faces from Lagos while legitimate staffers were sent home to await their letters of retrenchment.
“These appointments, surprisingly are done amid months of unpaid salaries despite the federal government having to arrange a bailout funds for Governor Aregbesola’s administration to pay workers”, the statement said.
The PDP maintained that apart from the appointments being ill-timed, it also queried the wisdom behind Governor Aregbesola appointing cronies, who are not based in the state into offices, when workers he owed legitimate dues are not paid from the FG bailout fund.
“Letters appointing these board members were signed by the chief of staff to the governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola and the salaries of chairmen of the boards range from N400,000 to N300,000 while ordinary members are to be paid between N300,000 and N180,000.
“Some of them have resumed duties and started making demands on the Permanent Secretaries of their ministries and heads of parastatals.
“This is another misplacement of priorities, misstep in governance and absurdity in management of Osun’s resources which has been the hallmark of the present administration in Osun state since Aregbesola’s coming on board in November 2010.
“Bailout funds are still stashed in some secret accounts in three banks. Workers, their families and other people of the state are living from hand to mouth and Ogbeni (ex-Engineer) Aregbesola is still adding more to the financial tragedy of the state all in a bid to please his Lagos lord and, possibly prepare a reception for him there after his disastrous misgovernment.
“To get out of the present situation we have found ourselves in Osun state, the PDP urges people of the state to pray for its liberation from the hands of the enemies who are feeding fat on our commonwealth”, the statement concluded.
