AGAIN! EKITI STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR, DR OLUSOLA ELEKA SET TO JAIL EKITI STUDENTS’ LEADERS:
“When silence is no more golden”.
Protocols,
The current clampdown on the leadership of the Students’ leaders in Ekiti State call for urgent intervention from all and sundry before it snowball into another round of orgy of violence against the Students’ populace as witnessed at a point in our State.
Setting the records straight, on Friday 18th September 2015, I received an anonymous call to report at the state scholarship board for an impromptu meeting, I went there in company of the P.R.O. of NANS JCC Ekiti Axis, Comrade Adesuyi Oluwaseun, having no reason to fear, but to our surprises, we met some persons parading themselves as FESSU leaders who were holding a meeting with the Commissioner of Education.
The Commissioner of Education in turn briefed us of their mission part of which was that the column of signature of LG chairmen,Traditional rulers etc be removed from the bursary form. I see nothing wrong with the request except for the way and manner they went about it.
It should be noted that the student movement in Ekiti state are currently not in good term with the present government, as the Fayose led administration is not ready to carry the student bodies in the state along for reasons best known to him.
On a yearly basis, the Government of Ekiti state is to provide Bursary and Scholarship for all indigenous students in tertiary institutions, of cause there were guidelines which has always made the process easy for collection and also made the payment easy for the Government.
My agitations as the National President of Federation Of Ekiti State Students’ Union(FESSU), which is termed to be anti government are as follows:
1. The Government made provision of 100 bursary forms per local government, meaning a total number of 1,600 forms are available as against the 10,000 forms that has always been the usual practice. The new idea is to limit the number of beneficiaries and to premeditated persons. On this, Ekiti students says NO.
2. The forms were made available for collection at the various local government areas, whereby, making it difficult for our students outside the state to obtain and have access to the forms, this also we says NO.
3. The Ekiti state Education summit which we were not allowed to attend, because the governor knows we would not accept his imposition of what he termed, ‘TASK’, is unacceptable to us in the way and manner the basic education is being subjected to this age, our primary school students have been billed, same also goes to our secondary school students, on this again we says NO.
Furthermore, all entreaties made to the Governor since his emergence has yielded no positive result as his Deputy, Mr Olusola Eleka with the aid of an accidental civil servant Adedeji Oso who has turned himself as an unofficial Personal Assistant to the Deputy Governor, this wouldn’t have been anything to us but as a former student union president in the then UNAD which should have placed him as a true Ambassador of Students but has allowed the primordial to overcrowd what should be his duty to the students’ fold. We are still at lost whether Deji Oso is a Civil Servant or a Politician
My ordeal in the hand of government and his agents of oppression: I was arrested and detained for hours before my fellow Comrades in arm start making agitation of my release, on an unfounded allegation by a boy by named Adeniran who led some other unknown boys to the Secretary of the scholarship board to impersonate the Senate President of the FESSU. Our simple demand for his locus made him aggressive and his other impostors to result to physical assault against my person and others with me. Ekiti students who knows me very well as their President (FESSU) defended the office, the rest is history .
However, to our chagrin, all we could heard from the Secretary of the board was the shout of “you are engaging government boy” It was at this junction we perfectly understood the game plan of the present government to polarize the Student fold in Ekiti. It is now clear that the act is spearhead by the Deputy Governor, and the Hon commissioner of education. But we can assure them that Ekiti Students shall resist this ploy.
I was later detained on the order of the Deputy Governor and the commissioner of education at the police headquarters, new Iyin Road Ado Ekiti. While at the police detention, the leadership of NANS in the state visited the boy (Government surrogate) and they found out that he was hale and healthy as against the claim that he has suffered injury sustained during the fistcuff.
His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Olusola Eleka and the Hon commissioner of Education,Mr Olajide Egunjobi stooped so low to misinform the Police that the boy is in coma thus i should not be release should in case the boy dies,i will be jailed for life.
After our release through the intervention of the leadership of Ekiti students stakeholders forum the government is devising other schemes to get us remanded by preparing to prefer a charge against us on Monday 21 September, 2015.
Saturday 19th Oct,2015
I reported 8am has agreed in the undertaking signed with the police after our bails were granted. As usual, we waited for hours to see the IPO in charge of the vexatious case which is aimed to persecute rather than prosecute. The case is dead on arrival as we are ready to forge ahead on the liberation struggle of the students movement from the shackles of the deputy governor olusola eleka, and the hon commissioner of education mr Olajide Egunjobi.
Fellow Nigerian students, the fight is ours, the struggle is ours, the victory is ours, i hereby declare as the President of the seen and unseen students of Ekiti state origin that we move enmasse to the Federal high court Ado Ekiti tomorrow 21st Sept 2015 by 7am,as the court sitting will commence at 9am.
We shall also commence a 3 days peaceful demonstration against this inhumanity to man.
Let me also use this medium to inform all FESSUITES, the students populace that we are not alone in this struggle as the leadership of NANS national, Zonal and state, the CDHR,MENS, and all other human rights organisation across the country will be engaged against the maximum ruler, Idi Ami of Nigeria.
Freedom cometh by struggle.
Signed:
Comrade Obayemi Peter Oluwaseun,FESSU national
.
