A member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon. Timothy Golu has condemned the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari in suspending the Controller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), David Parradang.
It would be recalled that President Buhari had on Friday ordered the suspension of Parradang and directed him to hand over to Martin Abeshi, who is the next most senior officer in the service.
In his reaction, Hon. Timothy Golu, who represents Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State, described the action of Mr. President too hasty.
In his words, Hon. Golu said, “As leader of the nation, Buhari is eroding the public confidence of people by being reactionary each time an issue is presented before him. I recall that the president had taken such misinformed decisions twice or thrice when he had to overrule himself because he was not properly briefed.”
Elaborating on the issue further, Hon. Golu added, “He should have called the suspended CGI and ask questions and where he is dissatisfied, he can take proper decisions and be able to tell Nigerians what happened. How can a permanent secretary query a CGI that is not appointed by him? That was insubordination and indiscipline, which the president himself is promoting and will not mean well for his much talked about anti-corruption crusade.”
The suspended NIS boss, Mr. David Shikfu Parradang, was born on 6th of September 1959 in Pankshin, Plateau State. Hon. Golu represents Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State at Nigerian House of Representatives. Therefore, his quick response to the suspension of Mr. Parradang may not be unconnected with fact that they both hail from the same place, same state.
