When two prominent families in Lagos State (name withheld) unanimously settled for the usage of Landmark Event Center, situated at Oniru, Victorial Island in Lagos State, as the venue for the wedding ceremony of their son and daughter (names withheld), they had imagined the place would be appropriate and convenient enough for the couple, themselves and their VIP guests . However, the reverse was the case as they were highly disappointed by the ugly incidence that transpired at the event.
It is important to note that Landmark Event Center is adjudged one of the premium event centers on the Island with huge amount of money charged for its usage.
The wedding ceremony, which was held on Saturday, 4th of July, 2015, witnessed prominent personalities like Barrister Wale Babalakin (SAN), Ronke Ayuba, among others, with the popular musician, Akin Sugar, as the guest artiste and Mr. Gbenga Adeyinka as the Master of Ceremony (MC).
Barely two hours after the commencement of the wedding ceremony, power supply was interrupted by the Electricity Distribution Company, and everyone in the hall was left in total darkness for almost two hours without alternative provision for electricity by the management of the Landmark Event Center despite the huge amount of money they charge people for the usage of their hall.
Initially, the management of Landmark Event Center attempted to put on their power generator, but only for the couple, their families, friends and prominent guests at the event to discover later that their generator was out of service. It was disheartening that such a big event center like Landmark is run in disorderliness manners, as there was no sight of any technician to put the generator in order. It was an embarrassing moment that some guests, who could not stand the heat and atmosphere, began to leave in annoyance.
The situation was so terrible that it appeared the event was not going to continue anymore. It took the magical comic relief of Mr. Gbenga Adeyinka and Akin Sugar to keep the atmosphere under control and make it a bit lively.
However, the situation was beyond what comic relief could totally address as about 30% of the guests had to leave, while some decided to stay behind at balcony. To add salt to the injury, when some of the guests hanging around the premises attempted to make use of lavatories, they found out that they were all in a mess. Maintenance teams were nowhere to be found. Everything was in disarray!
When it dawned on everyone at the event that the management would not do anything to make the alternative power supply available, Akin Sugar decided to make available his own power generator to ensure the continuity of the wedding ceremony, which had been adequately prepared for long time ago by the families of the couple.
Indeed, it was such an embarrassing moment, though not without relief, for the families and close associates of the wedded couple to hear people chorus sarcastically, “Praise God” when Akin Sugar’s alternative power generator eventually lightened up the venue.
It was an unfortunate situation. And a waste of money using that place. I overheard the Ella girl lying the bands equipment messed up their gen, even when the band didn’t hook up a pin to their source. A case of passing the buck instead of facing the situation. Landmark equals extortion. If I were the client I would ask for a refund! Walahi
