Crisis has erupted Heritage Bank, as its Head of the Enterprise Management Group, Robert Mbonu has been frustrated out by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mr. Ifie Sekibo, over the leadership tussle of the Enterprise Bank, which was acquired recently by Heritage bank.
Robert Mbonu, an astute numbers man and a seasoned Banker, is said to be representing interest of the new Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki as a major shareholder at Heritage bank. Robert was the one that led the team that restructured the former Societe Generale Bank Nig., owned by the family of Bukola Saraki leading up to the bank’s acquisition by IEI Investments Limited.
Information has it that the crisis leading to the resignation of Robert Mbonu had started when the Managing Director of Heritage Bank, Mr. Sekibo, began to see Robert as a rival who might take over the leadership of the bank from him.
On his own part, Mbonu, was indeed said to have been expected by many to be saddled with the responsibility of integrating the moribund bank into Heritage. That, however, did not happen and this further hastened his resignation from Heritage bank.
Robert graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng), and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA-Finance), and has attended executive programs at various institutes including; DC Gardner; The International Management School; and Harvard Business School. He is an Alumni member of the Institute for Management Development (IMD), Switzerland and The Lagos Business School (CEP13). He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), The Institute of Management (NIM) and the Institute of Directors (IOD).
